Beautiful feathered hearts are traditional on old Welsh quilts: for this class we've updated the classic, to create a gorgeous contemporary version. The simply-pieced background is hand-quilted with feathered heart and Welsh lovespoon motifs, and would be a perfect present for an engaged or married couple, or for an anniversary. Make the quilt in soft batiks, or in classic Welsh red-and-white; if you don't fancy a whole wall quilt, stitch one block as a cushion-cover or bag front.

Pick up lots of techniques and tips while making this proud specimen. We’ll start with colour planning, then easy strip-piecing, followed by Appliqué. There will be short demonstrations throughout the day, with quilting suggestions to round off the workshop.

Brighten up your winter day and spend it creating a glorious bouquet of flowers. Jane will show you how to make the appliqué flowers and you can then place them in your own unique arrangement or use Jane’s suggested layout. The finished bouquet can be made into a wall-hanging or cushion. Machine appliqué.

Jan won the Quilters’ Guild Award for Colour at Quilts UK 2009 for this quilt. Using a mix of colours and tones in each curved log cabin block, you can create an exciting art quilt from a much loved block.

Explore a landscape of your choice, which will form the basis of a piece of appliqued textile work.   Rolling hills, patchwork fields, woodland, beach and seascapes, African and manmade landscapes are all ideas that have been developed by previous students on this course.
On the first day you will have the opportunity to paint and print individual fabrics and papers relevant to your chosen project.

If you can't manage a weekday course come on one or all of these regular Saturdays and make that quilt you have always promised yourself. Carole will be covering a variety of patchwork techniques. Suitable for the absolute beginner.

A collection of luscious fabrics, lace, trims and stitch – using a traditional technique but with a very contemporary twist.  A simple but very effective wall hanging (approx 28” x 35”)  using fabric strips mingled with lace, miniature prairie points, fancy stitch and snippets of velvet and other goodies.

Two cushions for the price of one!! - trace the pattern then decide to hand quilt or machine quilt the trapunto or cord quilted design.

Moving on from her original traditional hand quilting class, Barbara will introduce you to a wide range of tips and techniques allowing you to hone your hand quilting skills. This class is suitable for improvers.

Come and spend two exciting days exploring the potential of water-based resists on cloth. We will be experimenting with potato-dextrin to create wonderful lacelike patterns and crackle lines, and with soy wax (similar to batik), flour paste and water-based glue. We will be using these techniques directly on the cloth and also via other tools such as stamps, stencils and silk screens. All of these techniques will be used together with Procion MX dyes to create wonderfully patterned fabrics for use in quilts, clothing and embroidery or as a background to Art Cloth.

Come and have a wonderful day dyeing fabrics with Potassium Permanganate to create a co-ordinated range in glorious shades of coffee from the deepest espresso to the palest latte!  The dyeing method is fairly quick and you will then be able to discharge the dyed fabrics with lemon juice to create your own unique patterns.

Working with a range of papers, sheer fabrics and fabric paints come and spend 2 days exploring the integration of paper and cloth. Techniques will include laminating paper and cloth, the use of fabric paints and metal leaf, silk screen painting and other direct surface applications. Suitable for all levels. N.B. There will be a £15 materials fee for this class payable to the tutor.

Indigo dyeing is a quick, fun method of producing wonderful indigo blue fabrics. Come and explore lots of ways to create beautifully patterned pieces of cloth.
